A video has surfaced showing a family of ten departing from a Miami restaurant without settling their bill, prompting the owner to speak out.
David Garcia, proprietor of the well-known La Camaronera Seafood Joint and Fish Market in Miami, has found himself at the center of an incident that has captured significant attention. Surveillance footage from his establishment reveals a large family leaving the premises hastily without paying for their meal. “It’s a family with a baby on board and kids, and it shows a terrible example,” Garcia commented, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
The incident occurred last Friday when the family dined at the restaurant. According to the footage, they hurried into their SUV while a waiter attempted to catch up with them, realizing that the bill had been ignored. This scenario unfolded rapidly, and Garcia described his employee’s dangerous attempt to stop the vehicle, stating, “You see him pulling off, and the driver driving off on Flagler and my employee kind of had to jump off the vehicle, which put his life in danger.” When questioned about whether the family could have missed seeing the waiter, Garcia confidently replied, “Oh, absolutely they saw him, yeah. They wouldn’t have sped out of this parking lot the way they did.”
In a surprising turn of events, a relative not present during the original incident returned to the restaurant a few days later to pay the $428 bill. Garcia revealed that this action was taken after the restaurant’s social media exposure of the occurrence. He noted, “No restaurant should go through what we went through that day and what my employee went through. That employee of mine had a baby three days before,” underscoring the emotional impact on his staff.
Despite the unsettling nature of the incident, Garcia chose not to involve law enforcement and instead requested that the faces of the children in the video be blurred. His decision reflects a blend of compassion and pragmatism, acknowledging the presence of minors in the family. He shared a broader message for potential offenders, warning, “If anybody thinks about doing it, they’re gonna get caught.” Garcia mentioned the presence of ample surveillance in the restaurant, which serves as a deterrent against similar actions.
This incident at La Camaronera highlights not only the challenges faced by restaurant owners but also the importance of accountability and vigilance in business operations.
