Scott Frost has returned to UCF as head football coach after an eventful few years away, marking the beginning of what is being called “Scott Frost Era – Part 2.”
The UCF Knights have decided to revisit their past successes by reappointing Scott Frost as head football coach, a role he previously held during 2016 and 2017, amassing a record of 19-7. Following his successful stint at UCF, Frost moved to Nebraska, where he faced a challenging tenure with a record of 16-31, ultimately leading to his dismissal in September 2022. Returning to the Knights, Frost is set to replace Gus Malzahn, who led the team to a 4-8 season in 2024.
His return was formally announced during a press conference, where athletic director Terry Mohajir revealed discussions with Frost about returning to UCF had taken place two years earlier. At that time, Frost declined due to his recent dismissal from Nebraska, but now embraces a new opportunity to build a sustainable winning team. Mohajir underscored Frost’s unmatched enthusiasm for UCF, believing Frost is uniquely suited to lead the program forward.
Looking ahead, Frost faces critical responsibilities, including staff development, recruiting for the February signing period, and potentially utilizing the NCAA transfer portal. He emphasized a strategic and careful approach, preferring long-term success over a hasty turnaround. Expressing some personal goals, Frost acknowledged a desire to prove himself once more, reflecting on his time away from coaching as particularly difficult.
Frost described his return to UCF as surreal, noting that it was the only college position he would consider leaving the Los Angeles Rams for. His passion for coaching, the Knights, and his competitive spirit were clear as he addressed his long-term intentions and commitment to UCF.
Scott Frost’s reappointment as UCF head coach brings hope for a return to triumph, echoing the success of his earlier tenure. With a blend of past experience and renewed passion, Frost aims to rebuild and guide the Knights toward future achievements, promising a careful, long-term approach to success.
