A second person has died following a single-vehicle crash in Kansas City on October 29 that investigators believe was caused by a medical emergency. The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead on Sunday, according to the Kansas City Police Department.

Police identified the passenger, who died on October 30, as 66-year-old Ramona Walters. The name of the driver has not been released. Sgt. Phillip DiMartino of the KCPD confirmed the driver’s death occurred at a local hospital.

The incident occurred around 12:17 p.m. near Broadway and Linwood boulevards. According to a preliminary investigation, the driver of a silver Dodge Journey appeared to suffer a medical event, causing the vehicle to accelerate uncontrollably. The car struck a parked Lexus, a light pole, a Vietnam memorial, and the side of a VFW building before coming to a stop.

The driver’s death marks the 57th traffic-related fatality in Kansas City this year. This figure is down from 80 fatalities recorded by the same time last year, according to police data.
