In a significant move to enhance procurement efficiency, SpaceCom and the AFCEA Space Coast Chapter have entered into a strategic agreement. This collaboration marks a pivotal step towards improving communication and shortening acquisition lead times in the space industry.
The agreement, announced by SpaceCom, aims to bridge the gap between government agencies and the space industry by leveraging the resources and networks of both parties. This partnership will feature a two-part Acquisition Panel Series at SpaceCom 2025, which is designed to fast-track the understanding of future acquisition needs across civilian and defense sectors. Such panels will be instrumental in guiding the industry to develop solutions that support varied space programs.
The inaugural session of this series is scheduled for late January 2025, with the U.S. Space Force leading the discussion on acquisition aspects of defense-related space missions. The following day, NASA will take the stage to focus on civilian space missions. These panels will include senior-level acquisition experts from key agencies, including NASA Headquarters, Kennedy Space Center, and the U.S. Space Force, who will provide insights into long-range acquisition forecasts (LRAF).
Tony Brown, the Founder and President of the AFCEA Space Coast Chapter, expressed optimism about this partnership, indicating that it would create an unmatched platform to accelerate the integration of innovative solutions into space programs. He emphasized that this initiative not only amplifies the impact of collective efforts but also reinforces the position of the United States as a leader in space exploration and defense.
Ryan Brown, Managing Director of SpaceCom, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the collaboration’s role in fostering commercial ingenuity that secures future advancements in space exploration and national security.
Beyond the acquisition panels, the agreement outlines ongoing engagement through quarterly updates and the establishment of a ‘Space Grove’ collaboration hub in Brevard County. This hub is expected to serve as a focal point for fostering continuous dialogue and collaboration between parties involved in space exploration and development.
This strategic partnership between AFCEA Space Coast Chapter and SpaceCom signifies a transformative approach to streamlining space program acquisitions and enhancing industry-government collaboration. As both organizations work hand-in-hand, the future of space defense and exploration looks promising and well-coordinated.
