Anthony Davis, in his first appearance for the Dallas Mavericks, suffered a left adductor strain that will keep him off the court for multiple weeks, according to reports from ESPN’s Shams Charania and Tim MacMahon.

Anthony Davis made a notable start with the Dallas Mavericks, contributing significantly to a 116-105 victory against the Houston Rockets. During the game, Davis secured 26 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists, and three blocks. However, with 1:37 left in the third quarter, he fell to the floor holding his groin after attempting to defend Alperen Şengün. Davis mentioned experiencing tightness in the muscle post-game, describing it as a spasm and expressing confidence that the issue wasn’t severe. Despite these reassurances, his projected absence could last up to a month, sidelining him for as many as 12 games.

This setback comes at a critical time for the Mavericks, who are currently positioned eighth in the Western Conference, 1.5 games ahead of the Sacramento Kings, Phoenix Suns, and Golden State Warriors. With upcoming games against the Kings and Warriors, Davis’s absence might affect the team’s efforts to maintain or improve their playoff standing.

Davis joined Dallas from the Los Angeles Lakers on February 2, in a significant trade that included five-time All-Star Luka Dončić heading to Los Angeles as part of a three-team deal with the Utah Jazz. Prior to the game against the Rockets, Mavericks fans expressed their dissatisfaction with the trade, protesting outside the American Airlines Center and calling for the general manager’s resignation.

The injury to Anthony Davis could impact the Mavericks significantly, given the tight race in the Western Conference. His contributions in his debut were promising, yet the team must now navigate upcoming challenges without his presence on the court. Meanwhile, the trade involving Davis remains a point of contention among fans, potentially influencing team dynamics moving forward.
