Bryan Harsin to Join Cal as Offensive Coordinator

Sources have confirmed that the University of California is set to hire Bryan Harsin as the new offensive coordinator, marking his return to coaching after his departure from Auburn in 2022.

Bryan Harsin, 48, has been identified as the new offensive coordinator for the University of California’s football team, pending the finalization of his hiring deal. This development follows Cal’s announcement last week of their search for a replacement for Mike Bloesch, who held the position this past season. Harsin brings a wealth of experience from his tenure at Auburn, Boise State, and Arkansas State, boasting an overall FBS coaching record of 85-36.

Harsin’s coaching journey began at Boise State, where he played as quarterback before transitioning into coaching roles, including positions as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Texas in 2011 and 2012. He later took on head coaching roles at Arkansas State before joining Auburn. At Auburn, Harsin’s stint was cut short by a termination in October 2022, less than two years into his contract.

Reuniting Harsin with Cal’s head coach, Justin Wilcox, is of particular interest; the two previously worked together at Boise State under head coach Chris Petersen from 2006 to 2009. Wilcox served as defensive coordinator while Harsin was the offensive coordinator, laying a foundation for a collaborative dynamic.

The hiring of Harsin is seen as a strategic move by Cal, aiming to leverage his extensive offensive expertise to enhance the team’s performance in the upcoming seasons. His experience and track record suggest that he could bring significant improvements to Cal’s offensive strategies.

Harsin has been out of the coaching scene since Auburn’s decision to part ways with him. However, his past successes, especially his impressive 69-19 record at Boise State, underline his capability and potential impact at Cal.

Bryan Harsin’s impending appointment as offensive coordinator at Cal presents an opportunity for the team to revamp its offensive strategies. With his extensive coaching background and previous collaboration with Justin Wilcox, Harsin is well-positioned to influence Cal’s football program positively.
