Chris Paul Surpasses Jason Kidd in Career NBA Assists

Chris Paul, the veteran NBA point guard, has achieved a new milestone by surpassing Jason Kidd to become second in career assists, trailing only John Stockton.

In a game against the New Orleans Pelicans, Paul reached this significant accomplishment with his third assist of the night, facilitating a 25-foot 3-pointer by Victor Wembanyama. This brought Paul’s total career assists to 12,092, as he continues to chase Stockton’s record of 15,806.

Reflecting on his journey, Paul recalled an early moment in his career when he saw the leaderboard listing Stockton as the all-time leader in both steals and assists. At that time, he thought to himself that he would one day reach those heights, a dream he now recognizes as a lie, yet one that fueled his relentless pursuit.

Paul’s achievement was notably honored during the game, with San Antonio Spurs calling a timeout to recognize his milestone with a brief video tribute at Frost Bank Center. Teammate Julian Champagnie praised Paul’s resilience, highlighting his ability to adapt and excel in the NBA over twenty years.

Paul shared assists with multiple players throughout his career, underscoring his long-standing impact and collaborative gameplay in the league. His contributions were also acknowledged by Pelicans coach Willie Green, who has firsthand experience playing alongside Paul.

Green commended Paul’s leadership and mental acuity, pointing out his ongoing influence on the team’s younger players. Paul’s strategic thinking and experience have been evident since his time with the New Orleans Hornets and LA Clippers, showing growth wherever he has played.

Chris Paul’s new record stands as a testament to his enduring talent and strategic prowess on the court. With 12,099 career assists, he remains a formidable force in the NBA, inspiring both teammates and fans alike through his dedication and skillful play.
