In a strategic move, the Dallas Cowboys have confirmed the continuation of Lunda Wells as their tight ends coach, marking the first official staff decision under new leadership.

Lunda Wells, who initially joined the Cowboys in 2020 alongside former head coach, is the first coach to be retained by the new leadership of Brian Schottenheimer. This decision reflects an effort by the Cowboys to maintain some continuity in their coaching staff amidst significant changes.

Prior to his tenure with the Cowboys, Wells spent eight seasons with the New York Giants, culminating in his role as their tight ends coach for the last two seasons. His experience in this position was a key factor in his recruitment to the Cowboys, where he has since continued his specific focus on developing the skills of tight ends within the team’s roster.

Brian Schottenheimer, initially brought to the Cowboys as a consultant in 2022, has now stepped up as the offensive coordinator, succeeding his predecessor after two years in the role. Schottenheimer’s promotion is part of broader coaching staff adjustments following the departure of offensive coordinator Mike McCarthy.

The Cowboys’ coaching revamp also includes the introduction of five new assistant coaches, demonstrating a fresh approach to their strategy on the field. Among these new appointments is Matt Eberflus, returning for a second stint as the defensive coordinator after his tenure with the Chicago Bears.

Other noteworthy additions to the coaching team include Nick Sorensen, who arrives from San Francisco after a previous role as a defensive coordinator. Alongside him, Dave Borgonzi takes on the role of linebackers coach, Aaron Whitecotton joins as the defensive line coach, and Andre Curtis assumes the position of defensive passing game coordinator. These changes highlight a tactical shift in the Cowboys’ coaching strategy, aiming for enhanced performance and results in upcoming seasons.

The decision to retain Lunda Wells signifies a balanced strategy between continuity and new leadership for the Dallas Cowboys, positioning the team for future success.
