Dallas Goedert Placed on Injured Reserve Plans for Playoff Return

Philadelphia Eagles have decided to place tight end Dallas Goedert on injured reserve following a knee injury sustained during the team’s Week 13 victory over the Ravens. This decision is part of a strategic plan to have Goedert return healthier for the playoffs, as reported by NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.

Goedert’s knee injury has been a topic of concern since it occurred in Week 13, leading the Eagles to sideline him for the upcoming game against the Panthers. As a result of being placed on injured reserve, Goedert is set to miss four of the Eagles’ remaining five regular season games. The decision underscores the importance the Eagles place on having their star tight end in optimal condition for a potential playoff run.

Despite Goedert’s absence, the Eagles continue to push for a playoff spot. A victory in their next match against the Panthers will strengthen their playoff odds, though additional results involving teams like the Falcons, Buccaneers, and Cardinals will influence their playoff fate. Currently holding a strong lead in the NFC East with a 10-2 record, the Eagles remain focused on securing their fourth consecutive playoff berth.

In Goedert’s absence, tight ends Grant Calcaterra and C.J. Uzomah are expected to have increased responsibilities. Calcaterra, in his third year, aims to build on his best season yet, having accumulated 17 receptions and 216 yards. Meanwhile, the Eagles have elevated E.J. Jenkins from the practice squad to fill the roster gap left by Goedert.

Throughout 2024, Goedert has been a crucial element of the Eagles’ offense, contributing 38 catches for 448 yards and two touchdowns across nine starts. His performance has been hampered by injuries, including a previous hamstring issue that caused him to miss three games. This season’s injury challenges highlight the physical demands and risks inherent in the sport.

The Eagles are determined to enter the playoffs with a fully recovered Dallas Goedert. While his presence is missed, the team has confidence in their squad’s ability to perform and secure a playoff position. The strategic sidelining of Goedert aims to prioritize long-term success over short-term gains.
