In a significant move for college football, Georgia Tech’s proficient wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr. has entered the transfer portal, a source confirmed. Eric Singleton Jr., known for his remarkable performance on the field, originated from Douglasville, Georgia, and quickly became one of the Atlantic Coast Conference’s (ACC) standout wide receivers. Over his tenure with Georgia Tech, Singleton achieved notable success, particularly during his sophomore year. His entry into the transfer portal marks a crucial juncture for both Singleton and the teams vying for adept wide receivers.
In his freshman year, he was recognized as a Freshman All-American, an accolade that set the stage for his subsequent impressive performance as a sophomore. Standing 5-foot-11 and weighing 190 pounds, Singleton’s athletic prowess was evident as he led his team with 48 receptions for 714 yards in 2023, scoring six touchdowns. Notably, this performance brought him close to breaking Calvin Johnson’s freshman record at Georgia Tech. The following year, Singleton maintained his high performance with 56 receptions totaling 754 yards and three touchdowns, contributing an additional 131 rushing yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. Singleton’s statistics during the regular season were equally impressive within the ACC, with his receiving yardage and an average of 13.5 yards per catch ranking him 12th. Together with teammate Malik Rutherford, who topped the team’s receptions with 59 this season, Singleton was instrumental in Georgia Tech achieving a national rank of 33rd in total offense, averaging 427.1 yards per game.
Towards the end of the season, Singleton delivered his two most outstanding performances. He recorded a season-high of 106 yards from five receptions in a victory against NC State on November 21. This was followed by a strenuous eight-overtime game against Georgia, where Singleton made eight catches for 86 yards and scored a touchdown. These performances underscored his pivotal role in the team’s offense.
In addition to his football prowess, Singleton also showcased his athletic versatility as a track sprinter, achieving a personal best of 21.18 seconds in the 200-meter dash during the ACC Championships earlier this year. While Georgia Tech prepares to face Vanderbilt in the upcoming Birmingham Bowl, Singleton’s departure adds a layer of intrigue to the bowl season as teams evaluate potential additions to their rosters.
