LA Galaxy and MLS Collaborate on Community Initiative

In a significant community-driven initiative, the LA Galaxy, alongside Major League Soccer (MLS), unveiled their 2024 MLS Cup Legacy Project. This effort is dedicated to providing safe, supportive environments for children in Huntington Park, as part of their broader commitment to community engagement.

The project was officially revealed at the East Side Riders Bike Club community center, featuring notable appearances by soccer legends Robbie Keane and Cobi Jones. These former Galaxy players were joined by MLS and community leaders, highlighting the collaborative nature of this endeavor.

The renovation of the space, which includes fresh paint and new shelving, will support around 500 children annually. By creating a safe haven for after-school hours, the project aims to foster education, creativity, and health among local youth. Acknowledging the rise in juvenile challenges during these times, the initiative seeks to provide a structured, positive alternative for children through organized activities.

The partnership between LA Galaxy and the East Side Riders Bike Club underscores their dedication to meaningful community involvement. As a part of this, the center plans to introduce its first youth soccer team, equipped through support from the Galaxy and MLS. This development will offer children a chance to engage in structured sports, promoting teamwork and reducing risky behaviors.

The East Side Riders Bike Club serves 20-25 children daily and will greatly benefit from this project. This aligns with MLS’s broader mission of positively impacting the communities where the league is present. In addition to the renovation, the club will receive a $10,000 donation to further enhance its after-school programs.

The combined efforts of the LA Galaxy and MLS in the MLS Cup Legacy Project reflect a substantial investment in community development. By focusing on youth engagement and providing safe educational spaces, these organizations are setting a benchmark for sporting entities committed to social responsibility.
