Marlins Seek New Manager After Parting Ways with Skip Schumaker

The Miami Marlins have concluded their professional relationship with Skip Schumaker, the 2023 National League Manager of the Year.

Peter Bendix, who serves as the President of Baseball Operations for the Marlins, expressed disappointment and frustration over the team’s performance this season, finishing with a record of 62-100. This challenging season ultimately led to a mutual decision between the Marlins and Schumaker to part ways.

Bendix communicated his respect for Schumaker, stating, “I have a lot of respect for Skip. I enjoyed working with him. I’m going to keep the private conversations that we had private. I wish him and his family nothing but the best.”

The search for a new manager is now underway, with Bendix emphasizing that there are various approaches to effective management. “There’s a lot of different ways, a lot of different styles of being a great manager. We’re going to run a thorough process and explore a lot of different candidates. No timeline for it because we want to get the right manager for us,” he explained.

Bendix remains optimistic about the future of the Marlins, mentioning his excitement for the potential of what the team is building. “I’m excited about what we’re building. I think that we saw a lot of positive things throughout the season… I think we have a foundation for something that could be real exciting,” he noted.

The departure of Schumaker, who successfully led the team to the playoffs last year, marks a significant transition for the Marlins. The organization is keen on finding a new leader who can capitalize on the existing foundation and drive the team forward.

As the Miami Marlins embark on the search for a new manager, the focus remains on securing a candidate capable of advancing the team’s vision and leveraging the positives observed during the past season.
