Kylian Mbappé, the renowned Real Madrid striker, expressed his surprise upon discovering reports that he was involved in a rape investigation in Sweden.
Speaking for the first time on French television, Mbappé explained his disbelief about the media reports originating from Sweden two months ago. He emphasized that these allegations caught him completely by surprise and insisted that he never considered himself involved in any such incident.
Several Swedish media outlets had reported that Mbappé was under investigation following an alleged incident that took place during his visit to Stockholm. However, his legal representatives immediately dismissed these claims as unfounded. “I was surprised and I still am surprised, by the way. These are things that come into your life like that, you can’t see them coming,” Mbappé stated during his interview with Canal Plus. “It’s just incomprehension. I don’t think it weighed on me in the sense that I have never considered myself involved.”
Furthermore, Mbappé clarified that he has not received any official communication from Swedish authorities. He asserted, “Listen, I haven’t received anything, no summons, nothing. The Swedish government has not said anything, so I’m not concerned (involved).”
At the time the reports surfaced in October, Swedish authorities confirmed an ongoing investigation into a suspected rape at a hotel in Stockholm, although they did not name any suspects. A prosecutor informed the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet that the investigation is still active, but refrained from providing additional details.
Mbappé remains unconcerned about the situation, having not been contacted by Swedish authorities. He maintains his stance of disbelief regarding the allegations and continues to focus on his professional commitments.
