Milton Returns to UCF as Quarterbacks Coach Under Frost

In a notable reunion, former University of Central Florida (UCF) quarterback McKenzie Milton is set to join the coaching ranks as the Knights’ quarterbacks coach under Scott Frost.

Milton, who played under Frost during the 2016 and 2017 seasons, expressed his enthusiasm for returning to UCF, stating, “I’m beyond excited to be back in Orlando and part of the UCF family once again. UCF holds such a special place in my heart, and to return as quarterbacks coach is truly an honor.” This move not only brings a beloved figure back to UCF but also reunites him with a coach who played a vital role in his career.

Scott Frost, who was reintroduced to the UCF community in a recent conference, hinted at this significant hiring by referring to the number 10 jersey, a nod to his position as the program’s 10th head coach. However, his comment, “maybe we know somebody else who can use that,” clearly pointed to Milton, who wore that number during his time as a player.

During his tenure as a player, Milton made a lasting impact by leading UCF to consecutive perfect seasons in 2017 and 2018, as well as securing back-to-back New Year’s Six Bowl appearances, including a memorable victory over No. 7 Auburn at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. His playing career was momentarily derailed by a severe leg injury at the end of 2018, causing him to miss the entire 2019 and 2020 seasons.

After transferring to Florida State in 2021, Milton participated in six games for the Seminoles before stepping away from playing. He subsequently transitioned into coaching, serving as an offensive analyst at Tennessee under another former UCF head coach, Josh Heupel, in 2023.

Milton’s return has sparked a positive reaction from former teammates and players. Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel, who previously played with Milton, expressed his support, saying, “I love it.” Additionally, former UCF receiver Marlon Williams applauded Milton’s resilience and contributions, noting on social media, “Happy for my guy KZ; he deserves it! Especially after everything he has been through.”

Milton’s appointment is anticipated to enhance UCF’s football program by leveraging his on-field expertise and unique perspective as a former standout player. His objective is to nurture the next generation of Knights and continue the tradition of success that he helped establish.

McKenzie Milton’s new role as UCF’s quarterbacks coach not only marks a homecoming but also strengthens the bond between player and mentor. His experience and passion for the game are set to invigorate the team’s dynamics under Scott Frost’s leadership.
