NBA Suspends Players for Roles in Rockets-Heat Altercation

In a tense conclusion to the Rockets-Heat game, the NBA has taken disciplinary action following a heated altercation that led to multiple ejections.

The NBA has suspended Amen Thompson of the Houston Rockets for two games and Terry Rozier of the Miami Heat for one game. The suspensions were announced after a brawl erupted in the final moments of the game on Sunday night. The altercation began when Thompson threw Miami’s Tyler Herro to the court after a heated exchange, prompting both benches to clear.

The league has also imposed fines totaling $145,000. Houston’s coach, Ime Udoka, was fined $50,000 for verbally abusing an official and delaying his exit from the court. Jalen Green of the Rockets received a $35,000 fine, while Tyler Herro of the Heat was fined $25,000 for their roles in the skirmish.

Additionally, Fred VanVleet of the Rockets was fined $35,000 for a separate incident involving contact with referee Marc Davis. The series of events led to the ejections of seven individuals, including VanVleet, Thompson, Rozier, Udoka, Houston assistant coach Ben Sullivan, Green, and Herro.

Tyler Herro, who led the game’s scoring with 27 points, commented on the situation, noting that frustration was evident as the game tipped in Miami’s favor. “I think they lost control of their feelings when the game started to turn a little bit in our direction,” Herro remarked. “And then obviously the ejection of VanVleet, you heard some words from their sideline towards the refs. They were definitely frustrated.”

Despite the chaos, Miami managed a comeback, overcoming a seven-point deficit with a 19-5 run to secure a 104-100 victory. Herro, who sustained a bruise from the fall, reassured that he expected to play in the upcoming game against the Pelicans.

The NBA’s decision highlights its commitment to maintaining sportsmanship and order on the court, emphasizing accountability for players and officials involved in altercations.
