The New York Red Bulls have extended goalkeeper Ryan Meara’s contract until 2026, with an option for 2027, highlighting his longstanding contribution to the team.
Ryan Meara has been an integral part of the New York Red Bulls since being drafted 31st overall in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft. Over his decade-long career with the team, Meara has achieved 10 shutouts across 44 league starts and secured three clean sheets in the 2024 season alone. Additionally, his participation in 17 US Open Cup matches marks the highest in the club’s history.
Jochen Schneider, head of sport, expressed the club’s enthusiasm in retaining Meara, stating, ‘Ryan has meant a lot to this club over the years, and we are really excited to keep him on our roster.’ Schneider praised Meara for his exceptional performance in 2024 and his leadership qualities, which set a positive example in the locker room.
As the club’s second-choice goalkeeper behind Carlos Coronel, Meara remains a key figure in the Red Bulls’ strategy. Under head coach Sandro Schwarz’s leadership, the team reached the 2024 MLS Cup, ultimately falling to the LA Galaxy in the championship match.
Meara’s contract extension signifies the Red Bulls’ confidence in his abilities and leadership, ensuring stability and experience in their goalkeeping lineup for the seasons ahead.
