The NFL has concluded its investigation into the sexual assault allegations against Deshaun Watson, quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, citing insufficient evidence to pursue further action.
The investigation, conducted over several months, aimed to determine if Deshaun Watson violated the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy. In a recent email to the Associated Press, league spokesman Brian McCarthy announced the closure of the case, stating, “The matter is closed.” Watson had already faced an 11-game suspension back in 2022 related to this issue.
Watson was accused by a woman in Texas of assault in September, with claims that sought over $1 million in damages. However, the dispute was settled confidentially, and Watson continuously denied the allegations through his attorney, Rusty Hardin.
As the investigation concludes, Watson is currently recovering from a significant Achilles tendon injury sustained in October, which has sidelined him for the season. Despite this setback, he is focused on rehabilitation with hopes to return to the field next season.
This recent development comes amidst contractual obligations with the Browns, who owe Watson $46 million annually over the next two seasons. Despite being signed for a guaranteed $230 million deal, Watson’s time on the field has been limited to only 19 games across three years due to suspensions and injuries.
