The Colorado Rockies have reached an agreement with infielder Thairo Estrada on a one-year contract, according to sources.
Estrada’s contract with the Rockies, pending a physical, will see him earn $3.25 million in 2025. Additionally, there is a mutual option for 2026, which includes a $750,000 buyout, making the total guaranteed amount $4 million if not exercised. If the Rockies choose not to exercise this option, Estrada will remain eligible for arbitration in 2026, marking his final year of eligibility.
The 28-year-old, who has spent six seasons in Major League Baseball, boasts experience with the San Francisco Giants over the past four years. In the most recent season, Estrada played in 96 games with the Giants, recording a batting average of .217 and an on-base plus slugging (OPS) of .590. Despite this recent performance, Estrada’s prior years show more promise; from 2021 to 2023, he achieved a .266 batting average along with a .736 OPS. During that period, he also managed to hit 14 home runs and steal more than 20 bases each season.
Estrada’s defensive contributions are notable as well, particularly at second base. Since the start of 2023, he has accumulated 28 outs above average in this position, ranking him third in the league. While primarily positioned at second base, Estrada also brings versatility, having played at shortstop, third base, and left field during his career.
Thairo Estrada’s new opportunity with the Rockies represents both a strategic acquisition for the team and a significant career step for Estrada, who aims to continue his positive trajectory on the field.
