Texans’ Tank Dell Returns to Houston After Knee Injury

Texans wide receiver Tank Dell has been released from the hospital following a severe knee injury during Saturday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Dell sustained the injury while executing a remarkable 30-yard touchdown catch during the second half of the game. As he maneuvered across the back of the end zone, he secured the pass from C.J. Stroud before an unfortunate collision with teammate Jared Wayne led to the injury. Dell immediately clutched his knee, prompting Wayne to call for medical assistance. The team trainers responded swiftly, attending to Dell for several minutes while his teammates displayed visible concern.

Following the on-field assessment, Dell was transported off the field via a medical cart and subsequently taken to the hospital for further evaluation. The injury occurred during a game where the Texans faced a 27-19 defeat against the Chiefs, marking a challenging moment for the team.

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans provided an update on Dell’s condition, emphasizing the seriousness of the knee injury, though specifics were not yet available. “Right now, we still will be evaluating to see where he is,” Ryans stated, indicating that further medical consultations are pending to determine the full extent of the injury and the potential for Dell’s return this season.

The coach expressed gratitude towards the Kansas City medical staff, notably head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder and his team, for their diligent care of Dell. “We would really like to thank the Kansas City medical team and the doctors there and their staff for being very accommodating,” Ryans said. The assistance from the Chiefs’ medical personnel was instrumental in providing Dell with the immediate care he required.

Dell’s injury comes as a significant setback for the Texans, compounded by the earlier loss of Stefon Diggs due to a season-ending knee injury in Week 8. Dell, a promising player since his draft from the University of Houston, had demonstrated notable performance with 51 receptions, 667 yards, and three touchdowns this season, ranking second on the team.

In light of Dell’s history, this injury marks the second consecutive year of severe setbacks, following last year’s fractured fibula. Additionally, Dell was involved in an unrelated incident in April in Florida, resulting in a minor gunshot wound. Despite these challenges, Dell has shown resilience in his career journey thus far.

Dell’s journey continues as he heads back to Houston for further medical assessment. The Texans and their supporters remain hopeful for his swift recovery and return to the field.
