However, the expectations set upon his hiring were not met by on-field performance, leading to the decision to seek new leadership.

The team’s downward trajectory, including losses in their last six games, prompted Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk to take action. Strunk’s decision to terminate Carthon comes barely a year after she removed Jon Robinson from the same role in December 2022. The search for a new general manager begins immediately, with Chad Brinker, president of football operations, overseeing the process. The franchise faces crucial decisions, including future plans for their fourth overall No. 1 pick in the upcoming NFL draft.
Brian Callahan, who was brought on board as head coach with Carthon’s influence, will continue to lead the team on the field. His efforts, while earnest, have yet to translate into success.
The Titans’ recent season ranks among the least successful since relocating to Tennessee from Texas in 1997, a period when the franchise has only once before held the number one overall pick. The previous instance saw Jon Robinson trade the pick for multiple selections in the 2016 draft, a strategy that did not pay off as hoped.
