Wembanyama Sidelined Due to Back Issue

The San Antonio Spurs have announced that Victor Wembanyama will not participate in Thursday’s game against the Chicago Bulls, citing bilateral low back soreness.

Wembanyama, a key player for the Spurs, sustained the back issue during Tuesday’s game against Phoenix, which ended in a 104-93 defeat. The incident occurred with 2:23 left on the clock when Wembanyama collided with Bradley Beal, resulting in a charge call. Despite the injury, he remained on the court until the final seconds of the game.

Reports indicate that Wembanyama left the court visibly distressed. However, interim head coach Mitch Johnson has not provided specific details regarding the severity of Wembanyama’s condition. The young star, recognized for his significant contributions on the court, was recently named the Western Conference Defensive Player of the Month, showcasing his remarkable stats, including an average of 23.5 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and a league-leading 3.4 blocks per game.

Earlier this season, Wembanyama had missed three games due to a bruised knee. The Spurs will likely adjust their lineup by starting Zach Collins in Wembanyama’s place and increasing the playing time for reserve center Charles Bassey.

In related team updates, backup point guard Tre Jones is also out, missing his second game due to a sprained left shoulder incurred during a recent win against Sacramento.

With Wembanyama and Jones out, the Spurs face a challenging match against the Bulls. The team’s adjustments will be crucial in adapting to these key absences and maintaining their competitive edge.
