A harrowing incident unfolded last week when a stolen SUV crashed into a Miami-Dade Transit bus as the driver attempted to flee from police. The owner of the vehicle, Tamara Pierre, is left to deal with the aftermath both emotionally and financially.
Tamara Pierre was met with disbelief upon looking out her bedroom window one Saturday morning, realizing that her SUV was missing. Recounting her ordeal, Pierre expressed a feeling of violation, having lost not only her mode of transport but personal belongings of significant value.
“To have someone take everything you have, there’s no words to describe it,” Pierre lamented. Her Honda contained essential items, including her wallet, military ID, children’s clothes, and Christmas gifts, which were all taken when the SUV was stolen. The situation quickly worsened when Pierre received alerts on her phone indicating that her bank and credit cards were being used without authorization.
The incident escalated Monday night as Miami Police identified Pierre’s SUV. Attempts to stop the vehicle led to a chase ending in a violent crash with a transit bus at Northwest 21st Avenue and 71st Street. Four individuals were implicated in the theft and subsequent crash: 23-year-old Jesse Wright, 26-year-old Terrick Huttoe, 19-year-old Dilmer Najar, and a juvenile male. According to an arrest affidavit, Najar was driving at the time.
Upon arriving at the scene where her SUV had been towed, Pierre was met with the shock that her vehicle was almost beyond recognition. “I get to the pound and I take a step back because I was shocked the car was demolished, it was unrecognizable,” she stated.
This incident has left a significant financial strain on Pierre, who has not been able to recover her belongings. Despite the ordeal, she expressed relief over her safety, stating, “I’m thankful I was nowhere near the vehicle because I felt like my life could be in jeopardy and I wouldn’t be alive today.”
