In a tragic incident on New Year’s Eve, Fort Lauderdale authorities are investigating the death of Angel Nunes, who was fatally struck by a stray bullet moments after midnight.
The incident occurred on the 700 Block of Northeast 17th Court, where detectives are diligently working to uncover the origin of the stray bullet. An ATF K-9 team was involved in the investigation, aiming to locate shell casings that might lead to clues.
Angel Nunes, 50, was celebrating the beginning of the new year with his partner, Chris Dillon, when the untimely incident happened. Dillon has expressed his concerns, suggesting that the bullet might have originated from across the Middle River.
“You shoot up in the air for fun, you can’t do it in a city,” Dillon stated, highlighting the reckless nature of celebratory gunfire that resulted in this tragic loss of life.
Investigators do not currently believe that this was a targeted shooting. Therefore, they are appealing to the community for any information regarding individuals who might have been discharging firearms into the air during the celebrations.
