A 38-year-old man has been arrested in Hong Kong following a six-day manhunt for a suspect accused of stabbing three customs officers during a drug raid. The arrest occurred on Wednesday morning in the Yuen Long district, concluding an extensive search operation by local authorities.
The incident took place last Thursday in To Kwa Wan, where customs officers were conducting an anti-drug operation. During the raid, three officers were stabbed. Authorities also seized narcotics valued at approximately HK$1.8 million (US$231,574) from the apartment where the attack happened. The arrested individual is the fifth person taken into custody in connection with the case.
According to Acting Senior Superintendent Gar Kam-lam of the Kowloon West regional crime headquarters, the suspect had been moving between various hideouts in Sai Kung and Hung Shui Kiu before being apprehended. “We visited his hiding spots in Sai Kung and Hung Shui Kiu and searched those places,” Gar stated, explaining how investigators tracked his movements.
The arrest effectively ends the city-wide search for the primary suspect in the assault. Authorities are now investigating whether the man had plans to leave the city. It is important to note that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
