A dramatic chase unfolded on the Seven Mile Bridge in Florida Keys as a man dangerously weaved through traffic before making a perilous leap into the waters below.
The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Joshua Seth Lapidus from Homestead, was caught on dashcam driving a black 2019 Dodge Ram pickup truck at speeds reaching over 100 mph. Troopers observed him initially moving at 70 mph in a 45 mph zone, prompting them to initiate a traffic stop. However, ignoring the law enforcement’s efforts, Lapidus accelerated and maneuvered through traffic, almost hitting several vehicles, including those of off-duty deputies.
The breathtaking sequence reached its climax on the Seven Mile Bridge when Lapidus stopped his vehicle abruptly and leapt into the water. Despite the risky plunge, Lapidus was later apprehended by a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office boat unit and taken into custody.
Further dashcam footage revealed Lapidus in conversation with a Florida Highway Patrol trooper after his capture, seeking leniency over his actions. Lapidus was heard asking, “So what would have happened if I had just pulled over?” to which the trooper replied that he would’ve issued a speeding ticket.
