In a tragic event on Sunday, a 15-year-old boy was fatally shot following a dispute outside a business and apartment complex in South Miami. Miami-Dade County Police have swiftly identified and detained two suspects in connection with the incident.
The altercation occurred around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of SW 64th Street and 59th Place. According to Detective Andre Martin of the Miami-Dade Police, the victim, identified as Nolan King, was known to the suspects. The alleged assailants are 19-year-old Javari Omarion Jones and 18-year-old Quinton Lenard Mayo. Martin stated, “The subjects were known to the victim. They were here at this location together.”
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, police received reports of a white Nissan Maxima leaving the scene. Officers on duty spotted a vehicle matching the description traveling southbound on SW 62nd Avenue and subsequently turning onto 72nd Street. Upon attempting a traffic stop, the vehicle’s driver accelerated, attempting to evade the police. The car was seen running a red light and entering the SR-836 southbound onramp.
The pursuit continued until the vehicle was ensnared by traffic congestion near South Dixie Highway and SW 104th Street. At this point, the two occupants exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Quick action by law enforcement led to their apprehension shortly thereafter. Both suspects were detained without further incident, ensuring public safety.
Emergency services transported Nolan King to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries despite medical efforts.
