Teens on ATV Accused of Killing Geese in Cooper City

In an unsettling turn of events, a group of teenagers allegedly used an all-terrain vehicle to run over a flock of Egyptian geese in a Cooper City neighborhood, sparking outrage and an ongoing investigation.

A typically peaceful canal-side neighborhood in Cooper City became the site of a disturbing act of violence when a group of teens, reportedly on an ATV, deliberately ran over Egyptian geese as they rested on a berm. Residents Brian and Serena Schaffer, who witnessed the incident, described the scene as a ‘massacre.’ According to Brian, the ATV drove up and down the area, zig-zagging purposefully to hit the geese. The Schaffers acted quickly, contacting authorities while attempting to stop the teenagers; however, their efforts were met with ridicule as the teens responded with laughter and profanities.

The chaos left dozens of geese either dead or critically injured. Brian, clearly affected, recounted collecting lifeless geese, with one particularly injured bird being taken to a wildlife rescue. The Broward Sheriff’s Office has been actively investigating, using detectives on ATVs to comb through the location for evidence. Efforts include reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses to help identify those responsible. In addition, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has acknowledged that Egyptian geese are protected by state laws against cruelty, despite being non-native to Florida.

The incident has created a sense of unrest among local residents who are demanding justice. Serena Schaffer expressed her dismay over the teens treating the horrific act as amusement. In response to the community’s concerns, the Schaffers have offered a $1,000 reward for any information that could lead to an arrest. The Broward Sheriff’s Office is encouraging anyone with details about the event to reach out to Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. The tragic event has left the Cooper City community grieving and calling for accountability for the heinous act against the geese.

The Cooper City incident has highlighted the shocking extent of animal cruelty some individuals are willing to inflict. As authorities work diligently to track down those responsible, residents are left to grapple with the senseless nature of the violence and the urgent need for justice.
