GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – A 47-year-old man was taken into custody Friday following a domestic disturbance that escalated into a shootout with law enforcement and an hours-long standoff, according to the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff Wesley Holt reported that deputies arrived at a residence on Warrensburg Road at approximately 7:00 a.m. to address a domestic situation in progress. A caller had alerted authorities that the suspect, identified as Todd McCamey, had threatened family members and barricaded himself in the basement with access to guns and knives.
According to Sheriff Holt, McCamey began firing at officers immediately upon their arrival at the scene. This aggression prompted the deployment of the department’s SWAT team. A negotiator was subsequently brought in to communicate with the suspect. Over the course of the next five hours, McCamey allegedly fired several shots inside the home and directed gunfire toward the officers positioned outside.
At approximately 12:30 p.m., McCamey informed officers of his willingness to resolve the situation peacefully. Sheriff Holt confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Greene County Detention Center.
McCamey has been charged with three counts of attempted second-degree murder, two counts of aggravated domestic assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. Sheriff Holt stated that the accused will be held without bond until his arraignment, which is scheduled for Monday. The response effort included assistance from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Greeneville Police Department, Sevierville Police Department’s drone team, Greene County EMS, and the Orebank Volunteer Fire Department.
Procedural Next Steps
The decision to hold the suspect without bond reflects the gravity of the charges, specifically the alleged use of lethal force against law enforcement officers. As the case moves to the arraignment phase, the judicial focus will likely center on the ballistic evidence and witness testimony regarding the standoff. It is important to note that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
