In a bid to revitalize tourism following recent hurricanes, Visit St. Pete-Clearwater recently hosted over 30 of the largest tour operators and travel agents in Clearwater.

Brian Lowack, President and CEO of Visit St. Pete-Clearwater, emphasized the importance of this initiative, noting that while many visitors only saw storm damage reports, including the destruction of roofs and cranes piercing buildings, the reality is that over 80% of the area is operational and ready to welcome tourists.

Businesses heavily reliant on tourism suffered in the hurricane’s aftermath. However, Lowack noted a gradual return of visitors in the last two weeks, coinciding with pleasant weather and fewer crowds, making it an excellent time to visit and enjoy attractive deals.

During their visit, the travel agents explored downtown St. Petersburg, experiencing its arts, culture, vibrant waterfront, and culinary scene. Lowack highlighted the diversity of the area, with 35 miles of white sandy beaches and 10 unique communities offering varied experiences.

Most tourists in the St. Pete-Clearwater region come from the Tampa Bay area, seeking a local getaway. Lowack encouraged exploration of the reopened Clearwater Beach and the participation in current deals with local hotels and restaurants.

The campaign’s message is clear: the destination, famous for its sunsets and beaches, is largely open. Lowack is optimistic that visiting the area will benefit the local economy and businesses.

Pinellas County is making strides towards recovery, with tourism leaders working tirelessly to restore the region’s appeal post-hurricanes. The area’s readiness to host visitors showcases a promising turnaround for local businesses.
