Details of the Incident
The confrontation occurred Saturday evening in the area of Wilbeam Avenue and Norbridge Avenue. According to Elola’s family and law enforcement, the incident began after a truck struck the back of Elola’s vehicle. Elola reportedly exited his car to confront the other driver, which led to a physical fight. Authorities stated that Elola sustained injuries during the altercation and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office confirmed the other driver called the California Highway Patrol’s non-emergency line to report his involvement. He subsequently returned to the scene, cooperated with investigators, and was taken into custody. The investigation into the circumstances of Elola’s death, which his son believes was due to head trauma, is ongoing.
Community Mourning
On Monday night, approximately 200 family members and friends gathered for a vigil at Street Eats 209, a food truck venue owned by Elola, to honor his memory. His eldest son, Angel Elola, described his father as a man whose family was “the most important thing in the world.” He added, “He was a great man who’s going to have a legacy that continues forever with nine kids and four grandkids and many more to come.”
The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation. It is important to note that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
