In Fort Lauderdale, a seemingly joyous New Year’s celebration took a tragic turn when Angel Nunez was fatally struck by what may have been a stray bullet.
Chris Dillon recounted the heartbreaking moment he shared with his boyfriend, Angel Nunez, as they welcomed the new year together at Dillon’s home in Fort Lauderdale. “I grabbed the back of his head and he grabbed the back of my head and forcefully had the most beautiful kiss; it was so beautiful. Backed off, I said I love you, he said I love you, and then he fell,” Dillon shared. Initially thinking Nunez had simply fallen, Dillon soon realized the seriousness of the situation when he found a small slit on Nunez’s stomach.
Despite Dillon’s immediate call for emergency assistance, Nunez was pronounced dead hours later. Dillon expressed his devastation with the words, “I cried, I started sobbing on the floor. It’s heartbreaking.”
The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is actively investigating the incident, exploring the possibility that Nunez was the unintended victim of celebratory gunfire. This tragic occurrence echoes a similar incident reported by Miami-Dade Police, where a 10-year-old girl was also killed by a stray bullet. Dillon, voicing frustration at the senselessness of such events, implored the community to make it easier for authorities to apprehend those responsible for these acts of violence.
The police have encouraged anyone with information to contact them promptly. The investigation remains ongoing, as the community of Fort Lauderdale seeks answers and justice following this tragic loss.
The start of the New Year in Fort Lauderdale was marred by a fatal incident that has left the community in shock and mourning. As authorities continue their investigation, the call for cooperation from the public is paramount in bringing solace to those affected and preventing future tragedies.
