A woman lost her life and a man sustained severe injuries after an ATV accident on New Year’s Day in Citrus County.
The crash occurred in the area of North Pine Dr. and East Kathy Rd. in Hernando at approximately 1 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The incident unfolded when the ATV driver, a 35-year-old man, attempted to steer clear of a collision with a motorbike. In the process, both he and his passenger, a 38-year-old woman, were ejected from the vehicle.
Following their ejection, a motorbike operated by a 16-year-old rider struck both the ATV driver and the passenger. This additional impact proved fatal for the woman, who died at the scene.
The man, suffering from life-threatening injuries, was immediately transported to a nearby hospital to receive urgent medical attention.
The young motorbike rider’s involvement in the accident highlights the unpredictable nature of such situations, where quick maneuvers can have severe outcomes.
The tragic event underscores the inherent risks of operating all-terrain vehicles and the critical importance of safety precautions.
