Tragic Incident Involving Road Ranger on I-95 in Hollywood

A fatal collision on Interstate 95 in Hollywood on New Year’s Day resulted in the death of a Road Ranger, as confirmed by Florida Highway Patrol officials.

The accident occurred early Wednesday, shortly after 3:30 a.m., in the southbound lanes at Hollywood Boulevard. The incident involved a Road Ranger and two troopers who were present at the scene of an earlier accident. It was during this time that two additional vehicles, a Honda Accord and a BMW X6, collided nearby while traveling southbound on I-95.

According to reports, after the Honda Accord and BMW X6 collided, the BMW entered the express lane, subsequently striking the concrete wall. The impact propelled the BMW into the Road Ranger’s Ford F-250 pickup truck, triggering a series of collisions. The pickup then hit one of the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) vehicles, which caused it to collide with another FHP vehicle parked at the scene. Unfortunately, the Road Ranger, at the time, was between these two FHP vehicles in the express lane.

The Road Ranger, identified as a 28-year-old male from Pembroke Pines, was pronounced dead at the accident site. His name, however, has not yet been shared publicly. The crash also resulted in ‘non-incapacitating’ injuries to both troopers present and one of the drivers involved in the collision.

Initial investigations revealed that the BMW was traveling behind the Accord at a higher speed and failed to take evasive actions to avert the crash. Authorities stated that the emergency lights, including the Road Ranger’s amber and red lights and those on the FHP vehicles, were active during the incident.

This event underlines the serious risks faced by safety personnel while attending to roadside emergencies, even when numerous precautions are in place. The investigation into the exact causes of the crash is still ongoing.
