Tragic New Year’s Eve Fort Lauderdale Man Killed by Stray Bullet

A New Year’s celebration turned tragic in Fort Lauderdale as Angel Nunes was fatally struck by a stray bullet while sharing a tender moment with his partner, Chris Dillon.

As the clock counted down to midnight, Angel Nunes made an unexpected visit to Chris Dillon’s home, ensuring Dillon wouldn’t face the transition into the new year alone. “He says, ‘I didn’t want you to spend New Year’s Eve by yourself,'” recounts Dillon, highlighting the depth of their connection. However, within moments of embracing on the back patio, the joyous occasion shifted to horror.

Dillon described seeing a quick flash from the corner of his eye while the two hugged, followed by Nunes collapsing to the ground. Despite swift efforts to call emergency services, who arrived shortly after midnight, Nunes succumbed to his injuries, a casualty of reckless gunfire thought to have originated from across the Middle River.

The tragic event underscores the dangers of celebratory gunfire, a dangerous practice that led to the untimely silencing of Nunes, a loving father and cherished friend. “You shoot up in the air for fun, you can’t do it in a city,” Dillon firmly stated, reflecting the pain of losing a loved one to such senseless negligence.

This New Year’s Eve incident serves as a somber reminder of the responsibilities that come with handling firearms and the dire consequences negligence can bear. As Fort Lauderdale police continue their investigation, the community mourns the loss of Angel Nunes, advocating for heightened awareness and prevention of similar tragedies.
