A 50-year-old Twin Lakes man died Tuesday morning in the Town of Randall after suffering a suspected medical emergency behind the wheel, causing his vehicle to veer off the roadway and crash, according to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies and rescue personnel responded to the intersection of State Line Road and County Highway HM around 6:45 a.m. following reports of a single-vehicle accident. Upon arrival, authorities discovered an SUV approximately 50 yards south of State Line Road, resting on a berm.
According to the official release, deputies found the driver, identified as Jose Gonzalez, unconscious and not breathing inside the vehicle. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by emergency responders, Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary findings from the Sheriff’s Office indicate that Gonzalez was traveling southbound on County Highway HM when his vehicle exited the roadway and crossed State Line Road before striking the berm. Investigators stated there is no evidence to suggest speed, alcohol, or drugs were contributing factors in the crash.
Sheriff David Zoerner issued a statement extending condolences to the family, noting the professionalism of the emergency responders. “Incidents like this are a reminder of how quickly circumstances can change and the importance of looking out for one another on our roadways,” Zoerner said.
Investigative Conclusions
The determination by investigators that a medical emergency precipitated the crash effectively rules out criminal negligence or traffic violations as primary causes. With speed and impairment excluded from the inquiry, the investigation is expected to conclude pending final medical examiner reports. This incident underscores the distinction between preventable traffic fatalities and those resulting from sudden, unforeseen medical episodes.
