Two individuals were arrested in Mount Clemens, Michigan, after the Macomb County Sheriff’s Enforcement Team raided a home near an elementary school, uncovering an alleged homemade drug laboratory. The raid on Thursday on Grand Avenue led to the confiscation of a significant quantity of illicit substances, including over 1,000 suspected methamphetamine-fentanyl pills.
Authorities arrested a 52-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman in connection with the operation. Investigators allege the male suspect used a false identity to purchase chemicals from overseas to manufacture and distribute unregulated substances. The home was located near St. Marys Catholic School, as well as the Mount Clemens Library and other local schools.
In addition to the pills, officers seized approximately 225 grams of Etizolam, Ketamine, 1,300 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, and anabolic steroids. A fully-functioning laboratory setup, including a pill press, various pill stamps, an autoclave, glass beakers, and packaging materials, was also discovered on the premises.
“This investigation and these arrests reflect our unwavering commitment to keeping our neighborhoods – and especially our schools – safe,” Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said in a statement. “Conducting illegal drug activity anywhere is unacceptable, but doing so near an elementary school shows a blatant disregard for the safety of our children.”
The male suspect faces multiple charges, including operating a lab near specified places, which carries a 20-year felony charge. Due to a fourth habitual offender status, his potential penalty could be increased to life in prison. The female suspect faces charges for delivery or manufacture of a controlled substance and possession of analogues. It is important to note that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
