An 11-year-old boy and an adult are recuperating after a distressing encounter involving a dog near a condominium complex in Deerfield Beach.
The incident unfolded around 6:30 p.m. when Stephen Pierre, accompanied by his mother, was confronted by three dogs at the Deerfield Palm Condominium. According to Pierre, one of the canines, identified as a pit bull, lunged and bit him. The other two dogs did not participate in the attack. Pierre recounted the harrowing experience, stating, “There were these three big dogs, one of them glared at me, I stopped, and then he pounced on me and bit me, the pit bull, one of them bit me, the other two didn’t do anything.”
The situation escalated as the dog’s owner attempted to intervene. Pierre described the owner’s desperate efforts to control the aggressive dog, saying, “The owner was punching him over and over. After that, I was yelling and screaming.” The alarm raised by the commotion drew Pierre’s mother, Elette Dorsainvil, to the scene, where she was met with a daunting sight.
Dorsainvil, shocked and concerned for her son’s well-being, immediately called 911. She recalled, “I go to take a shower, and I see my son on the floor. He’s saying, ‘Mom, Mom, I’m bleeding, I’m bleeding.’ And I see the dog with the guy in the corner, and it’s, I don’t know.” Responders from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, along with paramedics and Broward County Animal Control, arrived shortly after.
Authorities managed to remove all three dogs from the premises, although only one was confirmed to have been involved in the assault as of Saturday morning. The investigation is ongoing, with officials working to determine the next steps regarding the dogs’ future.
Dorsainvil expressed her gratitude that the injuries were not more severe and emphasized her concern about the potential for more dangerous outcomes. “I don’t know if my son will make a full recovery … thank God he is still alive because the dog could have attacked him on the neck, and I don’t know,” she commented. Additionally, it was reported that the dog in question also inflicted a bite on its owner during the incident.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack. As the community awaits the findings of the investigation, residents remain on alert.
