Two Men Indicted in Separate Florida Murder Cases

In a significant development, a Volusia County Grand Jury has indicted two individuals in connection with separate murder cases in Port Orange and Daytona Beach.

The first case involves Dougnitrio Smith Jr., a 26-year-old, who was previously indicted in October 2020 on charges of first-degree murder and arson related to the death of Elizabeth Adams. Smith is accused of killing the 67-year-old woman before setting her house on fire on Bolton Drive, Port Orange, on July 27, 2020. The latest indictment adds a charge of burglary with a battery to his list of accusations. Smith’s competency will be evaluated in a hearing scheduled for November 25 before Circuit Judge Elizabeth Blackburn.

In the second case, 18-year-old Chadley Joseph has been indicted on a charge of first-degree murder. Joseph is accused of a brutal attack that claimed the life of his 30-year-old female roommate, Sham Telfort, on November 6, 2023. The incident allegedly occurred in their shared apartment in Daytona Beach, where Joseph is said to have stabbed Telfort in her face, neck, and back.

These indictments highlight the ongoing efforts of the judicial system to address violent crimes as they unfold. With both cases now moving forward, the court proceedings will further explore the circumstances leading to these tragic incidents.

As both Dougnitrio Smith and Chadley Joseph face court proceedings, the legal process continues to seek accountability for heinous acts. The community is watching closely as these cases progress, reflecting on the impact of violence within their neighborhoods.
