A woman has been identified as the victim in a fatal deputy-involved shooting that occurred on Monday evening, April 21, 2025, at approximately 7:07 p.m. near the intersection of South Federal Highway and Southeast 10th Street in Deerfield Beach. The incident has prompted an investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).
Authorities report that Broward County Regional Communications received a 911 call alerting them to a female behaving erratically on the sidewalk. The caller described the woman, identified as 60-year-old Debra Lobbins, as waving a knife and stabbing a large black bag inside a shopping cart.
Upon arrival, Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) deputies encountered Lobbins armed with two large knives, each approximately 18 inches in length. The situation escalated when Lobbins, despite verbal commands from a deputy to drop her weapons, advanced toward him while swinging one of the knives in an aggressive manner. In response to the threat, the deputy discharged his firearm, striking Lobbins.
Additional deputies who arrived on the scene immediately initiated life-saving measures and performed CPR until Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue (BSFR) arrived. Unfortunately, BSFR pronounced Lobbins deceased at the scene. Fortunately, no other individuals were harmed during this incident.
The BSO has stated that the situation remains under investigation by the FDLE, which will lead the inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. In accordance with BSO policy, the deputy involved has been placed on administrative assignment while the investigation is ongoing.
