Pompano Beach, FL – A tragic single-vehicle crash early Thursday morning claimed the life of a young driver and left two passengers injured, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit. The incident occurred around 12:10 a.m. on April 24, in the 1100 block of East Copans Road.
Eighteen-year-old Corey Escarment from Deerfield Beach was driving westbound in a 2004 Toyota Highlander when he lost control of the vehicle. The SUV collided with a tree in the center median, before veering back into the westbound lanes where it finally came to a stop.
Emergency responders from the Broward Sheriff’s Office and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue arrived promptly at the scene. Escarment was pronounced dead on-site. The two female passengers accompanying him were transported to Broward Health North to receive treatment for their injuries.
Detectives from the Traffic Homicide Unit are conducting a thorough investigation into the crash. Preliminary findings suggest that excessive speed may have played a role in the accident. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
