Walker Buehler ensured a smooth start to his day by opting for a nearby hotel stay, avoiding potential road closures due to the Boston Marathon. This preparation was crucial as he geared up for Boston’s annual Patriots’ Day baseball game, where the Red Sox secured a 4-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox.
Accompanied by his family, Buehler embraced the familiar routine of hotel accommodations, thereby minimizing disruptions. “It was all quite normal for us,” he remarked, reflecting on their comfort with hotel stays.
Donning a white home jersey emblazoned with “Boston,” a nod to the city’s resilience following the 2013 marathon bombings, Buehler delivered his first pitch at 11:11 a.m. in the chilly confines of Fenway Park. He meticulously prepared for the game by reviewing player lineups on an iPad from his Newton home.
Buehler’s performance was commendable. Despite conceding a run in the first inning, he maintained control over the next six innings, allowing only four hits, striking out nine, and walking three during his 100-pitch session. He began his day early, setting his alarm for 6:45 a.m. and arriving at the park by 7:15 a.m., marking his earliest game since his time in Double-A with the Los Angeles Dodgers’ farm system in 2017.
Reflecting on previous experiences, Buehler recalled facing Jack Flaherty on a SpongeBob Squarepants-themed day during his minor league tenure, adding a touch of nostalgia to his pre-game thoughts.
