WASHINGTON – Tom Homan, President-elect Donald Trump’s appointed border czar, announced on Saturday that focused operations to detain undocumented migrants in the U.S. will commence next week, potentially impacting multiple cities.
In an interview with Fox News, Homan clarified that these actions would not be categorized as raids. “There are going to be targeted enforcement operations,” he stated when asked about deportation initiatives in cities like Chicago.
Regarding how these operations would affect sanctuary cities, which have vowed to refrain from using local resources for federal immigration enforcement, Homan indicated that the Trump administration may focus on city jails. “We want to arrest a bad guy in the safety and security of a county jail,” he explained.
A source informed Reuters on Friday that New York and Miami would be among the targeted locations. Additionally, The Wall Street Journal reported that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) would execute a week-long operation in Chicago, involving potentially hundreds of agents.
Homan, who previously served as acting director of ICE, emphasized that the agency is meticulously planning these operations. “They (ICE agents) will know who is possibly in the household, including children. Every target for this operation is well-planned, and the whole team will be out there for officers’ safety reasons,” he said.
When asked about the timeline for Trump’s proposed mass deportations, Homan did not provide specifics. We’ve got over 700,000 illegal aliens in the United States with final order removals. President Trump has been clear from day one … he’s going to secure the border and he’s going to have the deportation operation.
