US President Donald Trump has indicated that Iran is nearing an agreement with the United States regarding a nuclear deal. The recent discussions, which concluded on Sunday, have been characterized by Trump as substantial negotiations aimed at achieving enduring peace. An Iranian official stated earlier that Tehran is prepared to make significant compromises concerning its nuclear activities in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions imposed by the US. The United States has been firm in its demand that Iran cease its uranium enrichment activities to prevent the development of nuclear weapons, despite Iran’s assertions that its nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes.

During a Gulf tour stop in Qatar on Thursday, President Trump expressed optimism about the possibility of reaching a deal on Iran’s nuclear program, which could potentially avert a military confrontation aimed at Iranian nuclear sites. Following a meeting with business executives in Doha, Trump suggested that progress is being made towards reaching an agreement without resorting to military action.

Although the president did not specify certain comments, a senior adviser to Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Shamkhani, conveyed in a US media interview that Tehran is open to implementing extensive restrictions on its nuclear program. As part of these negotiations, Iran is reportedly willing to relinquish stockpiles of highly enriched uranium should the United States agree to lift sanctions.

The latest round of negotiations concerning Iran’s nuclear ambitions concluded on Sunday with a consensus to reconvene for further discussions. US Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff described these talks as promising, while Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi regarded them as challenging yet beneficial. Previously, President Trump had withdrawn from a nuclear agreement involving Iran and several other global powers in 2018. He had also cautioned that military action against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure could be considered if the ongoing negotiations, initiated in April, did not yield results.

A senior US official reported that the recent discussions extended over three hours, during which an agreement was reached to advance the dialogue focusing on technical aspects. The official expressed optimism about the day’s outcome and anticipated the continuation of talks in the near future.
