Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear Embraces Halloween with Ted Lasso Costume

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear brought a touch of humor to a Thursday press conference by dressing as the fictional soccer coach, Ted Lasso.

At a press conference in Frankfort, Kentucky, on October 31, 2024, Governor Andy Beshear humorously donned a costume of Ted Lasso, a character from a popular television series. This lighthearted gesture marked the start of his session before he transitioned into discussing pressing state matters.

Dressed in a blue zip jacket, visor, and sunglasses, Beshear’s attire mirrored the character famously portrayed by comedian Jason Sudeikis. Yet, the governor did not remain in character throughout the session. He soon removed the sunglasses and later the visor and jacket, indicating a return to his official duties at the Kentucky Statehouse.

The governor shared his Halloween spirit on social media, echoing Ted Lasso’s motivational phrase: ‘Every day is a chance to be better than we were the day before.’

Governor Beshear has a history of incorporating props into his public addresses. Notably, in July, he brought out a bottle of Diet Mountain Dew during a conference, expressing apologies to its makers while discussing political matters.

Beshear gained national attention after securing a second term as governor in the predominantly conservative state of Kentucky. His recognition increased when he was considered as a potential candidate for Kamala Harris’ running mate, although the Democratic presidential nominee eventually chose Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

Governor Beshear’s Ted Lasso costume on Halloween provided a moment of levity before addressing significant state issues, reflecting his unique approach to public communication.
