Oakland Park, FL – Tragically, an 81-year-old woman lost her life in a single-vehicle crash on Thursday morning in Oakland Park.

At approximately 10:37 a.m. on April 17, 2025, Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) district deputies and Oakland Park Fire Rescue personnel responded to reports of a crash near the 2900 block of North Dixie Highway. Upon arrival, authorities found that the driver, identified as Judith A. Power of Fort Lauderdale, had been pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

According to preliminary investigations conducted by BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit, Power was operating a 2016 Volkswagen Beetle when the vehicle veered off the roadway to the right. It initially struck a raised curb and subsequently continued along the sidewalk before colliding with a large tree. The impact caused the Volkswagen to rotate around the tree, resulting in the engine being ejected from the vehicle.

Following the collision, the Volkswagen ricocheted back into the southbound lanes of North Dixie Highway, where it came to a stop. Fortunately, authorities confirmed that no other individuals were injured in this tragic incident.

The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash. BSO encourages anyone with additional information to come forward.
