Tampa, FL – A Jamaican national has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for illegal reentry into the United States as an aggravated felon. U.S. District Judge Richard A. Lazzara handed down the sentence to 55-year-old Hubert Richard Crew, who pleaded guilty earlier this year.

Crew, originally from Jamaica, was first deported from the U.S. on January 26, 2007, after serving a federal prison sentence for charges including misprision of a felony, failure to appear, and making a false statement on a passport application. Despite his deportation, Crew reentered the United States multiple times, leading to additional removals on April 26, 2013, and November 30, 2016.

On November 7, 2024, federal immigration authorities located Crew in Tampa after receiving an anonymous tip about his illegal reentry. The investigation was conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jeff Chang.
