Lieutenant General Yaroslav Moskalik, a high-ranking official in the Russian military, was killed when an explosive device detonated in his vehicle in Balashikha, a suburb near Moscow, on April 25, 2025. The Russian Federal Security Service has apprehended a suspect identified as Ignat Kuzin, who is alleged to be an agent of the Ukrainian special services and holds a residence permit in Ukraine.

The Russian Investigative Committee is actively working with the suspect to uncover the details surrounding the incident and gather evidence. Moskalik held the position of deputy head of the main operational department within the General Staff of the Russian army. The explosion occurred in a Volkswagen Golf in a residential area, marking a significant security breach.

Ukrainian authorities have not issued a statement regarding the attack. This incident follows a similar event from December of the previous year, when Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov was killed by an explosive device concealed in an electric scooter outside his apartment building.
