House Oversight Committee Democrats have released at least three emails obtained from Jeffrey Epstein’s estate that mention President Donald Trump, reigniting scrutiny over his past relationship with the convicted sex offender. The emails, dating from 2011 to 2019, emerged as Congress prepared to reopen the government following a shutdown, which had provided a temporary reprieve from such revelations.

Key Email Revelations

One 2011 email from Epstein describes Trump as the “dog that hasn’t barked.” In the same correspondence, Epstein claims an individual, whom Republicans on the committee identified as Virginia Giuffre, “spent hours at my house with him,” referring to Trump. Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s accomplice, responded to this email, stating, “I have been thinking about that.”

A 2019 email from Epstein suggests Trump was aware of Maxwell’s recruitment activities. Epstein wrote of Trump: “of course he knew about the girls as he asked ghislaine to stop,” referencing Maxwell’s recruitment of employees from Mar-a-Lago. This email surfaced during President Trump’s first term, as his administration considered actions related to Epstein.

In a 2015 email exchange, Epstein and author Michael Wolff discussed how then-candidate Trump should address questions about his association with Epstein. Wolff suggested a strategy for Trump to handle potential inquiries during a debate.

Questions About Trump’s Knowledge

These newly released emails intensify existing questions about the extent of President Trump’s knowledge regarding Epstein’s activities. Trump has consistently denied any wrongdoing in the Epstein case and has stated he was unaware of Epstein’s crimes. The White House, in response, accused Democrats of “selectively leaked” the emails to “create a fake narrative to smear President Trump.”

Previously, Trump had acknowledged being aware of Maxwell recruiting individuals, including Giuffre, at Mar-a-Lago, but he was reluctant to provide extensive details. Past reports include Trump’s 2002 comment that Epstein liked women “on the younger side” and a 2016 book quote where he reportedly joked about Epstein’s “swimming pool was full of beautiful young girls.” Giuffre’s memoir also recounts a meeting with Trump where he suggested she babysit for his friends.

Contradictions to Maxwell’s Testimony

The emails also appear to contradict statements made by Ghislaine Maxwell to the Trump Justice Department in an interview conducted while her appeals were ongoing. Maxwell had downplayed President Trump’s relationship with Epstein and claimed she had no knowledge of any wrongdoing by Trump.

Specifically, Maxwell testified that she did not recall ever seeing Trump at Epstein’s house, stating, “I don’t think they were close friends.” However, the 2011 email suggests Maxwell was aware of Trump being present at Epstein’s residence, as she responded to Epstein’s claim about Trump spending time there.

Significance and Context

The timing and content of these emails suggest that both Epstein and Maxwell considered the information about Trump to be significant, potentially as leverage. The 2011 email, with Epstein’s “dog that hasn’t barked” comment, coincided with growing news about Epstein’s ties to Prince Andrew, a period when Epstein was reportedly in “legal attack mode.”

Similarly, the 2019 email was sent as the Justice Department was initiating an investigation into the lenient deal Epstein received from former U.S. Attorney Alexander Acosta. These timelines indicate that the individuals involved were aware of the broader implications of their associations.
