The park is also recognized as part of the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom, commemorating its role as a secret port for escaped slaves and Seminoles seeking passage to the Bahamas.

Beyond its historical significance, Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park provides a wide range of outdoor activities. A mile and a quarter of Atlantic beachfront, often ranked among the nation’s best, is open for swimming and sunbathing. The park’s flat terrain includes a paved 1.5-mile bike path and unpaved nature trails, which are perfect for cycling, hiking, and birdwatching. For those who prefer water activities, fishing is popular along the seawall on Biscayne Bay, which is considered one of the best spots for shoreline fishing in the region. The park also features canoe and kayak launches, and boaters can anchor overnight in the tranquil No Name Harbor. Two on-site restaurants, Lighthouse Café and Boater’s Grill, offer casual dining with scenic views, providing options for visitors to enjoy a meal without leaving the park’s serene environment.
Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park is open from 8 a.m. until sunset, 365 days a year. However, visitors should note that some amenities, such as the fishing piers and select pavilions, may be temporarily closed for renovations.
