The identification of two victims found deceased inside the wheel well of a JetBlue aircraft at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in January has been confirmed by authorities. The Broward Sheriff’s Office announced, after conducting “extensive DNA testing,” the victims were identified as Jeik Aniluz Lusi, 18, and Elvis Borques Castillo, 16.
Back in January, a relative of Aniluz Lusi disclosed to local media that the teenager had been missing since January 3. Concerns had arisen within their Dominican Republic community where it was suspected that Aniluz Lusi and two other teens intended to leave the country. The whereabouts of one of these teens remains uncertain.
The bodies were discovered on January 6 within the aircraft’s landing gear compartment during a “routine post-flight maintenance inspection,” as confirmed by a JetBlue spokesperson. It was established that the individuals were deceased upon discovery.
Flight radar data indicated that the aircraft landed at 11:03 p.m. from New York’s JFK International Airport. Airport District deputies arrived on the scene around 11:30 p.m., where paramedics officially declared the deaths.
While autopsies have been conducted on both victims, the official cause of death has yet to be disclosed by the authorities.
